     Quick action saves juror's life

Jim Mahoney's quick thinking helps to save a juror's life

Jim Mahoney, a judicial specialist II in Black Hawk County, was quick to respond when a juror suffered a medical emergency during jury selection March 15, 2016.

"While working the main switchboard area on third floor of the Black Hawk County Courthouse, Mahoney was alerted of a medical emergency in one of the courtrooms," District One Court Administrator Linda Nilges said. "Jim immediately retrieved an automated external defibrillator from another floor of the courthouse and provided it to emergency personnel.  He also assisted in relocating the other jurors while emergency personnel assisted the juror. Jim's quick actions were ultimately instrumental in saving the juror's life."
